what a great show - "Much Ado About Nothing"! indeed, it's a great story of how man can easily mistrust his own wife, making a big fuss about nothing! what a great writer William Shakespeare was! a man of wits and humour, meticulous and sensitive! i've always love the old English language.. such poetry and passion in every sentence, even mockery is an illustration of tact and wits~. though today's performance has been localised to asian culture, but the language is just as beautiful as it was.. awesome! i almost wanted to get another ticket to watch it again!
oh, for those of you who dont know, i just attended a outdoor drama performance in fort canning.. totally outdoor, totally casual and we prepared a feast of picnic food (we = XY,my 2 dear godbros n his gf, my godsis and me) .. a typical 'philippino picnic' if you know what i mean :P .. i prepared the sandwiches and the cheese platter (yes, my picnic can be quite 'atas' if i want it) while the gers brought puffs and salads.. of course, i trust the guys to help to carry the heavy drinks (which i thought florence will bring her wine).. haha.. but all in all, it's a simple picnic.. this time, i didnt plan much on the menu, just grab what i can whip up and go..
it's more than food, it's the company that matters.. being with them again, it's like a small family reunion.. we are same 'god-family', remember? i'm glad XY enjoyed our little 'family' though it's her first time with us. she even commented she enjoys the company *gd job, bros* i know it's the first time for all of them to attend such outdoor performance, they are enjoying it so well.. (now i know who to invite next yr~, i attend it every yr)
ok, a little reflection on the performance.. it's awesome! the cast, though local as they are, spoke with such fluency and elegant accent... and they are so professional!! even to the extend of being totally 'naked' and wet! i love the merry war between Benedick and Beatrice! i could feel so much for Beatrice cos she is so much like me - 'high expectations' woman seeing no hope in the male human gender yet there's something in our hearts that tickles the marriage thought.. i like that way Benedick upholds his ego, yet humbles himself to love Beatrice and requested to be 'binded' in the end... such is the valour of a gentleman in love~ *i wonders does it still exist in the human male species now* this is the character i know my man must possess, esp i'm the 'modern' Beatrice? :)
My favourite quote from Beatrice:
"He that hath a beard is more than a youth, and he that hath no beard is less than a man: and he that is more than a youth is not for me, and he that is less than a man, I am not for him: therefore, I will even take six pence in earnest of the bear-ward, and lead his apes into hell. .... but to the gate; and there will the devil meet me, like an old cuckold, with horns on his head, and say 'Get you to heaven, Beatrice, get you to heaven; here's no place for you maids:' so deliver I up my apes, and away to Saint Peter for the heavens; he shows me where the bachelors sit, and there live we as merry as the day is long."
