what do you think of someone who regards his pet as his son/daughter?
i have this friend who is not a 'pet-lover', as so she claims and insisted. ironically, she has to face the ultimate test of patience and love cos she has just been given a very young puppy as a pet. i was actually very surprised that she would even agreed in the first place.. but anyway, the situation as it it now.. she is very upset with the little one, jumping mad with its teething and 'natural' behaviour..cant wait to get rid of it.. no matter how and what i try to console and comfort her, she simply insist she is not the animal person.. cant wait to get rid of the little one, just cos she cannot stand his natural animal behaviour
i can understand her frustration, afterall it's really not easy for a non-pet lover to have a pet, let alone a very young puppy. (if she ve asked me,i'd advise her to get a trained pet, instead of a totally new and untrained one).. but no matter what, since you have bought the little one, he is your commitment! to you, he's just a dog - a small part of your big and colourful world; but to him, YOU ARE HIS WHOLE WORLD! i dunno abt you people, but i'm strongly against people 'trying out' with pets! since young, i cannt stand people 'trying out' pets, and then when the bonding seems to fail, they simply discard them. hey, look! in case you do not have a sensitive heart, ANIMALS HAVE! they are far much sensitive for love and care than you! to you, they are just 'another little life', just like any other pests like ants, cockroaches.. but hey! dogs and cats just do happen to have a higher intelligence! they can experience depression, joy, and even worry, just like humans! are you saying we human are just like pests? (which i agree - some of us do)
ok, some of u may say i'm bias cos i've my son and have been an animal lover all life.. but have you ever try to put yourself into the shoes of these pets? yes - they are cute when they listen to you. but have you ever listen to your parents so well? even if you are born filial, have you never done anything wrong? let's face it! no one is perfect, so is every creature on earth. i believe as just humans are meant to polish human, God also gives human these animals to cultivate our love and patience.. we have the responsibility to love and care for every life He has created.
as for the qn - regarding pet as child, my stand is unless you commit yourself into taking care of your pet, you can never experience the joy and pain of being its 'foster' parent. Once you are into this bond with it, it will be your pet child even if you already have a human child. ... no word i say can bring you to this realisation of pet-child bonding, unless you experience it yourself.
(btw, i NEARLY got into a heated argument with this friend.. if she keeps insisting she is just not the person, she wont even willing to try to step out.. nothing will change if a person keeps doing the same thing)
